Buckmaster Show 5/21/2019: Can liberal democracy, as we know it, survive?

Sheldon Fishman hosts with guest Dr. Brint Milward, Director of the School of Government and Public Policy at the U of A.

Professor Milward is an expert on government and how governments work for people.  His research interests revolve around networks and collaboration.  On the show, we will trace the origins of governments as an organizing force for society, discussing the trade-offs people make to that allow governments to exist with the consent of the governed.  What are the trends driving fundamental change in societies around the world?  What happens when people’s expectations of governments cannot be fulfilled?  Are our institutions keeping pace with demand?  Can liberal democracy, as we know it, survive?
